For those of you who have been around these parts for a while, you’ll know that the WSOTP Podcast team was lucky enough to have been asked to provide the televised and streamed match commentary for the Cincinnati Saints during their 2014 NPSL season.
How many of you actually tuned in to watch the Saints and listen to our broadcasts, I’m not quite sure. But if you did, you’ll know that it was a learning experience. Calling a match turned out to be a lot harder than I had anticipated — not to mention the occasional technical difficulties — but it was still loads of fun and I learned a lot. If nothing else, it gave me a deeper appreciation for the commentators I listen to week in and week out during domestic and foreign broadcasts.
Yet despite our occasional hiccups and rookie experience, we still must have done something to impress the bigwigs, as the Saints have kindly extended our contract through the 2015 NPSL season!
Using the left hand navigation — or top navigation if you’re on mobile — navigate on over to our Match Commentary page to see a listing of all the Cincinnati Saints and Lady Saints matches that our broadcast partners ICRC plan to show this season. In total, Jeremy and I will be in the booth for eight games: five for the men and three for the women. Live streams should once again be available for each (with a promise of more reliability this season), and live and tape delay broadcasts will also be available on local access cable in Cincinnati.
To show our excitement about once again partnering with the Saints to bring professional level soccer to the Tri-State region, I’ve been hard at work on a special project to help spread awareness and celebrate the team and city. Following a trend that we’ve seen across the world of football, I’m creating high-def match posters for each of the men’s home matches of the NPSL season! And below you’ll find the first of the season, made for the home opener on May 23rd at 7pm against the FC Indiana Lions…
Meant to replicate the look of the many stained glass windows that dot the litany of churches and Cathedrals in the city, my first Saints Matchday Poster prominently features many of the elements of the club that make it so great. The famous Roebling Suspension Bridge represents the city of Cincinnati’s rich past, while the Great American Insurance Tower represents its bright future. Both the Saints’ players and fans are represented as well, as the club couldn’t be without either. And of course there’s a soccer loving, “C-sign” toting Saint, representing the club’s nickname.
Feel free to print the image out to hang in your favorite local pub, share it on social media, or save it to use as your desktop background. Then check back the week of each match to see the posters I’ll be making for future games as well. And don’t forget to tune in to our broadcasts this Spring and Summer!
